A $50 order pays $6.80 FVF + $0.40 per-order fee — a 14.4% total take for most categories.

Short answer: for most categories in 2026, eBay takes 13.6% of your total sale amount plus a per-order fee of $0.30–$0.40. But three details in that sentence cost sellers real money when they miss them.

The fee applies to shipping too

eBay's final value fee is calculated on the item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer, plus sales tax in many cases. Charging $8 shipping does not shelter that $8 from fees — which is why "free shipping built into the price" and "cheap item + high shipping" cost you the same.

The per-order fee has two tiers

Orders of $10 or less pay $0.30; orders above $10 pay $0.40. It is small per order but brutal on low-priced items: on a $6 sale, the per-order fee alone is 5% of revenue before the FVF even applies.

Category rates vary widely

CategoryFinal value fee
Most categories13.6%
Books, movies, music~15.3%
Musical instrumentsas low as ~6.7%
Sneakers over $150reduced rate

Store subscribers get discounted rates in many categories, while accounts rated Below Standard pay a painful surcharge. Since eBay moved to managed payments, there is no separate PayPal-style processing fee — it is all inside the FVF. If you promote listings, your chosen ad rate is charged on the total sale as well.
