How eBay fees actually work in 2026

eBay's final value fee is 13.6% for most categories, and — this is the part that surprises sellers — it applies to the total sale amount: item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer. Charging $5 shipping doesn't dodge fees; eBay takes its cut of that $5 too. On top sits a flat per-order fee: $0.30 on orders of $10 or less, $0.40 above. Since eBay moved to managed payments there is no separate PayPal-style processing fee — it's all inside the FVF.

Category matters enormously: books run around 15.3% while musical instruments can be under 7%. Store subscribers get discounted rates in many categories, and accounts rated Below Standard pay a painful surcharge. If you use Promoted Listings, your chosen ad rate is charged on the total sale as well — enter it in the calculator to see its true bite.

Reading your receipt

The receipt separates eBay's take from your own costs, shows the net payout that actually lands in your account, and computes the break-even item price at your current shipping charge — the minimum you can list at without losing money on the order.

Frequently asked questions

How much does eBay take from a sale?

For most categories, 13.6% of the total sale (item + buyer-paid shipping) plus $0.30–$0.40 per order. Exact rates vary by category and Store subscription.

Does the eBay final value fee include shipping?

Yes — the FVF is calculated on item price plus the shipping charged to the buyer. Free shipping built into a higher price and separate shipping cost the same in fees.

What is the eBay per-order fee?

A flat fee on every order: $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less, $0.40 above $10. This calculator switches tiers automatically.

Does eBay charge payment processing separately?

No — since managed payments, processing is built into the final value fee. There is no separate PayPal-style charge.
